The association host an annual symposium, which is attended by circa 1200 neurologists, nutritionists, and care centre staff as well as sufferers of the disease and their carers from around the world. Up to and including 2019, these events had been ‘in person’ based in different cities across the globe each year. The event requires 2 main stages and a smaller 3rd stage, together with all associated sounds, light AV etc. Asets UK have had the privilege of assuming responsibility for delivery of these events since 1995. When hosted in the UK, we deliver the event in entirety. When hosted abroad, we deliver with the help of local agencies who will follow our template for delivering the symposium, with Asets personnel on site providing Project Management capability. However in 2020, the Covid pandemic meant that the planned symposium in Toronto had to be cancelled. Not to be deterred from hosting their key gathering, the Association sought a solution based on delivering a virtual symposium which could be live streamed to delegates around the world.
About the organisation
The MND Association focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Established in 1979, the organisation now has 170 Staff, 9000 members, and had income in 2020 of circa £20m to help fund its activities and crucial research.
We proposed we build a mock-up of a broadcast studio in the Nottingham headquarters of the MND. This would facilitate panel discussion and presentation, could be safely lit and filmed following all prevailing Covid protocols and would facilitate delivery of the symposium to the widest possible audience. Using latest CAD Technologies, we were able to illustrate exactly what the finished product would look like.
We were able to deploy our set building expertise and create a fully functioning studio backdrop within their office environment. Working with our webcasting technologies, we were able to record each presentation and make it available to delegates for consumption at a time of their choosing. This hybrid approach to conference delivery significantly reduced overall cost for the client, and extended the audience for this years event to a global audience of circa 2000 delegates.
